Solution highlight—Eaton DC molded case circuit breakers
Eaton’s DC molded case circuit breakers are UL® listed for use in general DC circuits and ungrounded battery supply circuits of UPS systems providing continuous, reliable AC power to computer-controlled applications, such as financial transactions and telecommunications.
Interrupting capacity on UL rated DC molded case circuit breakers ranges from 42 kA @ 125 Vdc to 75 kA @ 600 Vdc. While UL does not recognize DC solutions above 600V, Eaton does offer 750 Vdc solutions from 20 kA to 4 2kA interrupting capacities. Eaton is also willing to develop customized DC solutions for specific applications.
One such example is our recent work with ZBB, a flow battery manufacturer, to design and develop DC solutions for a family of grid tie inverters used in storage applications. To create the inverter, Eaton incorporated DC molded case circuit breakers for isolation and protection from the battery connection. The design is based on one of two inverter styles that ZBB created. Their ACG inverter ties the battery directly to the grid connection and uses Eaton’s HKDDC3400 breaker for isolation. ZBB’s PECC inverter is tied to a bank of DC/DC converters and uses Eaton’s HFDDC3100L breaker for isolation.
